OFA Strategy Session - Boston, MA
Join Organizing for America for our 2010 Strategy Session in your area. The Strategy Sessions are a chance to talk with OFA staff and other volunteers in your area about our legislative and electoral plan for 2010. As an organization, we have come a long way in the past year. We have lessons to learn from the budget pledge drive, health insurance reform and the Massachusetts Senate Race. Now is the time to bring those lessons together and look forward to 2010. There are countless opportunities to create change in the coming year and we have an important role to play in making that happen. As a team, we will talk about how to be involved in creating change in our country, both legislatively and electorally. We will talk through national strategy and discuss together what that means for our local community.

Roxbury's Black History trolley tour
Boston's Black community has been on the move politically, socially, and artistically for centuries. The free Black community was once centered in the North End in the 1700s. As the population grew and new opportunities became available, the community moved first to Beacon Hill in the early 1800s and then the South End in the late 1800s. By the first half of the 20th century, the highlands of Roxbury eventually became the center of Black Boston, although the community has since continued to grow into Dorchester, Mattapan, and the suburbs.

Join this informative and exciting trolley tour as it travels through three centuries of Boston's historic Black neighborhoods. Follow the progression of the Black churches, gain an appreciation for the importance of the arts, and learn about the movers, shakers, and strivers of their time.

Originally part of Roxbury, West Roxbury became its own government in 1851 and was attached to Boston in 1874.

Today, the tree lined streets and local single family homes give a suburban feel in an urban setting.
